| Music is more important in Hinduism than in any other major religion except Christianity. Religious texts were set to music in the time of the Vedas. Mantras and prayers are found in every kind of Indian music. Classical music is filled with sacred terms. God being in everything, there is no real distinction between the sacred and the profane in Hinduism. Each piece in our collection includes either prayers or mantras. Their power lies in the fact that millions over the centuries have repeated them daily. All the selections were picked for their variety, beauty, but most importantly for the singer’s attunement. The first sample selected is a hymn to the Guru. The second selection, shiva Manas Puja, is part of the daily service to Shiva. The final sample, Hari Krishna, is known as the Maha or Great Mantra and comes originally from the Upanishads. | |
